India strongly rejected Pakistan’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir at the UN General Assembly, accusing Islamabad of misusing international platforms to promote what it described as false narratives India delivered a pointed rebuttal to Pakistan at the United Nations General Assembly on Saturday, rejecting Islamabad’s remarks on Jammu and Kashmir and accusing it of repeatedly using international forums to advance what New Delhi described as misleading narratives. The exchange unfolded during deliberations on the Annual Report of the UN Security Council, where India also renewed its call for reforms aimed at making the body more reflective of contemporary global realities. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, responded after Pakistan’s envoy raised the issue of Jammu and Kashmir during the session. India accuses Pakistan of misusing UN forums Addressing the General Assembly, Harish said Pakistan had once again attempted to use an international platform to advance its political objectives.
“The unwarranted reference by Pakistan to a matter strictly internal to India, the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, has compelled me to respond,” the Indian envoy said. He further alleged that Pakistan had misused its membership of the Security Council by circulating what India described as inaccurate communications. “Pakistan has decided not to spare this forum either from their characteristic misuse of august UN platforms for their divisive political interests. I’d like to remind Pakistan that being a member of the UN Security Council is a huge responsibility. It’s not a forum for peddling biased and false narratives,” the envoy said. India reiterates position on Jammu and Kashmir Reaffirming New Delhi’s stance, Harish said there was no ambiguity regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir. He said, “Jammu and Kashmir was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. Any assertions to the contrary are baseless, devoid of and inconsistent with historical facts.” He added that “empty rhetoric and hollow claims by Pakistan would not change this fundamental reality.” The comments were delivered during the broader debate on the Security Council’s annual report.
Call for Security Council reform India also used the opportunity to press for long-standing reforms of the Security Council, arguing that the current structure no longer reflects contemporary geopolitical realities. “Retaining the status quo has so far not enabled effective functioning of the Security Council and cannot do so in future,” the Indian envoy said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Harish advocated expanding both the permanent and non-permanent categories of Security Council membership and called for the annual report to be submitted earlier in the year. India protests Gilgit-Baltistan election plans The Ministry of External Affairs on Friday issued a “strong protest” against Pakistan’s plans to conduct general elections for the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on June 7, 2026. “The Government of India lodged a strong protest with Pakistan regarding the latter’s plans to hold “General Elections” to the so-called ‘Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly’, in the Indian territories illegally and forcibly occupied by Pakistan, scheduled for 7 June 2026,” MEA said in a statement.
