A major outreach event celebrating the centenary year of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh is set to take place in New York City at Madison Square Garden. Organized by American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue, the Universal Oneness Celebration aims to promote unity and engage with the diaspora, expecting around five thousand attendees. Ahead of the gathering, visits were made to the local ISKCON temple, emphasizing universal consciousness and harmony despite global divisions.
However, the event has drawn opposition from local political leaders, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who criticized the vision of the organization while acknowledging the city lacks jurisdiction to cancel a private program. Furthermore, several organizations have voiced concerns, written to diplomatic officials requesting visa revocations, and organized demonstrations, while event organizers maintain that the gathering fosters community bonds and celebrates cultural unity.
