(Source: X) Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said issues with senior Congress leader Ramalinga Reddy had been resolved, a day after the minister resigned on Friday. The resignation offer came shortly after the distribution of portfolios in the new cabinet on Friday. Shivakumar later confirmed that Reddy had sent his resignation via WhatsApp, while asserting that there were no outstanding differences. “Ramalinga Reddy is my friend. All problems have been sorted out. Don’t make up stories. All those stories have become stale. The resignation issue is settled," Shivakumar told reporters. His remarks came after he met Ramalinga Reddy at a private hotel in Bengaluru’s Jayanagar area late on Friday night, according to sources close to the minister.
Before the meeting, Shivakumar and his wife, Usha Shivakumar, had dinner at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence in Bengaluru. According to the portfolio allocation announced by the government, the senior Congress leader was assigned the Major and Medium Irrigation department. Reports suggested that he had been seeking the Bengaluru Development portfolio. Reddy Says He Remains In Congress While announcing his decision on Friday, Reddy made it clear that he was stepping down only from the ministerial post and not from the Congress party. “I am still in the Congress party; I have not resigned from the party. I have been in the Congress party for the past 53 years. I have handled several responsibilities within the party," he said while showing his resignation letter to the media. Shivakumar Had Promised Talks Earlier on Friday, Shivakumar said he would speak to the eight-time MLA and try to resolve the issue. “Of course, I had promised him. We will speak to him and convince him. He is a very senior leader of the party," the Chief Minister had said.
Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge also expressed confidence that the matter would be resolved through discussions among senior party leaders. PM Modi’s Greetings Shivakumar also referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s greetings after he took oath as Chief Minister on June 3 and stressed the need for constructive politics. “PM Narendra Modi wished me. I would like to thank him. I should meet him as a matter of courtesy. We don’t want politics for the sake of politics. Let us all work together to do politics that benefits the people of the state," he said. Congress Leaders Back Reddy Following Reddy’s resignation offer, AICC co-incharge for Karnataka Abhishek Dutt praised the senior leader for his contribution to the Congress government’s welfare initiatives. “I think we should be extremely thankful to Ramalinga Reddy. Every woman in Karnataka is travelling all over without any money. This is the guarantee of the Congress Party. Thanks to the Congress guarantee, every person in Karnataka is benefiting. Today, the Karnataka model is being followed by the BJP everywhere.
