HYDERABAD The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has blamed the Congress Government in the State, particularly the two ministers from combined Nalgonda district, for allowing Andhra Pradesh to siphon off water from Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar reservoirs, the joint facilities for the two Telugu States, even when they are yet to become surplus. Speaking to the media in Nalgonda on Friday, former minister and Suryapet MLA G.

Jagadish Reddy said that the Nalgonda ministers were staying mute spectators, though AP was drawing water from two reservoirs every day. The Telangana Government was allowing AP to draw water from Pothireddypadu Head Regulator, despite the condition that it could draw water only after Nagarjunasagar became surplus. Jagadish Reddy stated that AP had impounded all projects/reservoirs in Rayalaseema with Krishna water by diverting it through PRP-HR.

He noted that the previous BRS Government had given water to the Sagar ayacut for 17 seasons in a row, even when there was lesser volume of water in it compared to the current position, including to the lift schemes based on the Sagar Left Canal. As on Friday morning, the water level in Sagar was 532 ft (172 tmc ft) against its capacity of 590 ft (312 tmc ft) and it was sufficient to give 30 tmc ft water to the Left Canal ayacut.

He alleged that AP had already diverted 148 tmc ft Krishna water, but the Congress Government in Telangana had left the Left Canal farmers to their fate.
