(Photo:X) The murder of a 49-year-old assistant professor from a Delhi University college has left investigators grappling with several unanswered questions after she was found dead inside her apartment in east Delhi’s Vasundhara Enclave on Thursday. The victim, identified as Devosmita Paul, was an assistant professor at Shivaji College and lived alone in the apartment, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar. The case came to light after Paul’s sister, Devarati Paul, grew concerned when repeated phone calls to her sibling went unanswered throughout the morning.
When she reached the apartment, she found it locked from the outside. Suspecting something was wrong, Devarati broke open the lock and entered the flat, only to find her sister lying dead inside. She immediately alerted the police through a call to the Police Control Room (PCR), informing officials that her sister had been murdered and was inside the residence. Locked Flat Adds To Mystery One of the key questions confronting investigators is how the apartment came to be locked from the outside despite the victim being found dead inside. Police have not yet disclosed whether there were signs of forced entry or any indications of a struggle inside the flat. The circumstances surrounding the locked apartment are expected to be a crucial part of the investigation. Forensic Teams Examine Crime Scene Following the alert at around 2.35 pm, police teams rushed to the spot along with forensic experts and members of the crime branch.
A detailed examination of the apartment was carried out, with investigators collecting forensic samples and other evidence from the scene. The residence was also photographed and videographed as part of the investigation process. Officials said all potential clues are being examined to reconstruct the events leading up to the professor’s death. Cause Of Death Awaiting Post-Mortem Report The body has been shifted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police said the exact cause and time of death will be known only after the autopsy report is received. Murder Case Registered, Multiple Teams Formed A case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at New Ashok Nagar Police Station. Police said multiple teams have been constituted to identify and apprehend those responsible for the crime. Investigators are examining the victim’s recent movements, phone records, personal and professional contacts, and CCTV footage from the area. Authorities are also exploring all possible angles to establish the motive behind the killing.
With the victim living alone and the apartment found locked from the outside, the case has raised several questions that investigators are now working to answer.
