The Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court, Lisa Gill, told the people to be conscious of their fundamental duties and try to fulfil them while enjoying the rights conferred by the Constitution. She also appealed to the citizens to be grateful to the freedom fighters without whose immense personal sacrifices Independence would not have become a reality.
Participating as the chief guest in the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the HC on Saturday, Chief Justice Gill reminded that India’s liberation from the clutches of the British was a result of the prolonged struggles and sacrifices made by several great leaders and called upon every citizen to be a part of nation building in line with the ideals of the martyrs.
She stated that the judiciary has played a crucial role in safeguarding the principles of freedom, equality, and social justice that were enshrined in the Constitution and said the courts have been protective of the rights of the backward, and weaker sections. Delivering justice in an expeditious and transparent manner has been the top priority of the judiciary, she observed.
Gill adviced that judges, bar associations and lawyers should work with mutual coordination and dedication to uphold the rule of law and Constitutional values so that the litigant public would place trust in them. Through four Lok Adalats organised this year, an impressive 13,95,017 cases were resolved amicably, she added.
