Minister of Water Resources Nimmala Rama Naidu on Saturday (August 15, 2026) said that modernisation works worth ₹681 crore have been proposed for the headworks of the Godavari Delta System in the Godavari region. The Minister hoisted the national flag during the 80th Independence Day celebrations at Bhimavaram in West Godavari district. In his address, Mr. Rama Naidu stated that the Water Resources Department is awaiting administrative approval for the proposal regarding the headworks modernisation project.
“The modernisation of the entire Godavari Delta irrigation system, which spans Kakinada, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Konaseema, East Godavari, and West Godavari districts, has been proposed under the Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Calendar-2026. A LIDAR survey is being conducted to prepare the Detailed Project Report for the modernisation of the Godavari Delta irrigation system,” said Mr. Rama Naidu. The Andhra Pradesh State Irrigation Calendar-2026 has committed to complete 36 irrigation projects, including modernisation of the Godavari Delta irrigation system by December 2028.
“The modernisation of the Godavari Delta irrigation system is likely to be completed by June 2028,” he said. On Godavari Pushkarams, Mr. Rama Naidu stated that tourism projects worth ₹31.54 crore have been proposed to the Department of Tourism in the West Godavari district. He said an integrated coconut processing cluster has been proposed to be set up in West Godavari district with an estimated cost of ₹30 crore under the aegis of the Godavari Coconut Association.
On women empowerment, he stated that ‘Choco Tales’ has been established in Tadepalligudem, where women are engaged in the production of chocolates in the West Godavari district. Rama Naidu also announced that critical care unit works worth ₹23.75 crore are nearing completion in Bhimavaram.
