Rapid Read Image for representation | File photo A domestic dispute allegedly ended in a double tragedy in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura district, where a man is accused of shooting his wife before turning the gun on himself late on Thursday night, police said. The incident was reported from Suryanagar Colony on Govardhan Road. According to police, the deceased have been identified as Pokhan (23), originally from Kandhari village in Madhya Pradesh’s Datia district, and her husband Mithun (27), a resident of the Chhibrabari area in Jhansi.
Investigators said Pokhan had been living with her friend Ragini in Mathura for the past few days and was employed at a beauty parlour. She had previously worked at a spa centre in Gonda. Police said the couple had a love marriage five years ago, but had been living separately following differences between them. Mithun, who was working in Jhansi, arrived in Mathura on Thursday in search of his wife. According to the preliminary investigation, the two got into an argument, reportedly over a court case involving them. Police said Mithun allegedly asked Pokhan to withdraw the matter, but she refused. Following the altercation, Mithun allegedly used a country-made pistol in his possession to shoot his wife.
Police said he subsequently shot himself in the head with the same weapon. Both died at the scene. After receiving information about the incident, Superintendent of Police (City) Rajiv Kumar Singh and Highway police station in-charge Prashant Kapil reached the spot along with other police personnel. Forensic experts were called in to examine the scene and collect evidence. The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, while family members of both the deceased have been informed. Police said initial findings indicate that a dispute between the couple led to the incident. Further investigation is underway.
