(X) Hours after ending his si year-long association with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), K Annamalai updated his X bio to: “A common man in search of good politics." The former Tamil Nadu BJP chief, once the party’s prominent face in the state, announced on Friday that he would be launching a “political movement" of his own and would contest the general elections, outlining his next political steps. His exit, which had been under speculation for weeks, was formalised on Friday when the former police officer-turned-politician tendered his resignation from the BJP, bringing his stint with the party to a close. The leader resigned after a series of meetings with the BJP’s top brass in the national capital. However, assurances from the party to address his “issues" did not alter Annamalai’s decision, with the former Tamil Nadu BJP chief reportedly opting for a “cordial separation" to chart his own political course.
In his media address after quitting the BJP, Annamalai outlined his future plans in detail, announcing that he would soon launch a new political movement. We want to take politics to the people and end the culture of “permanent MLAs and MPs," the leader said. Big Poll Ambition While outlining his political roadmap, Annamalai said he would contest the next Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. He said his movement would focus on preparing “many new leaders for the future" and promised a platform powered by common people rather than traditional parties. Acknowledging the scale of the task, he said it would require “patience and composure" to build the party “step by step". Referring to his personal journey from the civil services to politics, he described himself as “an IPS officer who has lived and worked across India, proudly identifies as both an Indian and a traditional Tamilian". ‘Please, Join Me’ Pitching his political movement as “common people’s politics with ideological clarity," Annamalai urged the youth to join him to end “cult politics and dynasties." He said, “We are building the politics of change, laying the foundation for future generations." He also reached out to the public for support in his political journey, asking people to place their trust in him.

There is a need for a politics that can bring about real change," he said. Calling for a shift in the state’s political culture, Annamalai argued that politics must move away from individual-centric leadership and focus instead on the common people. “We have to come out of one individual-driven politics. We need common-man politics." ‘Views Don’t Align With BJP’ While promising to continue speaking on Tamil issues, Annamalai said that “ideologies must adapt for future generations or perish." He added, “I believe that a strong and united India will be built on the dignity and aspirations of its many regions," and pointed to his differences with the BJP on Tamil Nadu-related issues. He said he had expressed these disagreements with the party over the last 18 months, noting, “Our views don’t align with regard to Tamil Nadu." Annamalai also thanked the BJP for the opportunity to serve for six years, recalling that he had joined the party inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Describing his time in the party as a significant phase of his political journey, he said it provided him with valuable experience and learning. However, he clarified that his future political outfit would not treat the BJP differently from other political parties in Tamil Nadu.
