What many believed was impossible has been achieved by an Ayurvedic practitioner who successfully cultivated the prized Miyazaki mango in a region known for its hot climate.
The remarkable feat comes from Nawabpet village in Telangana’s Nirmal district, where Rapalli Satyam runs an Ayurvedic and Yoga Ashram surrounded by medicinal plants and fruit trees. A firm believer in natural healing, Satyam has spent years nurturing rare plant species and using them in traditional Ayurvedic treatments. His latest success involves the Miyazaki mango, a premium Japanese variety often described as one of the world’s most expensive fruits. Known for its distinctive ruby-red colour, exceptional sweetness and limited production, the mango is typically grown in Japan under carefully controlled conditions. Around two-and-a-half years ago, Satyam learned about the variety and became determined to grow it in his ashram. He travelled to Kolkata and purchased six Miyazaki saplings, reportedly paying around Rs 10,000 for each plant.
Many locals doubted the experiment would succeed, arguing that a fruit associated with Japan’s climate would struggle to survive Telangana’s intense heat. However, Satyam remained undeterred. He spent years carefully tending to the saplings, monitoring their growth and adapting cultivation methods to local conditions. His persistence appears to have paid off, turning what many considered an impossible experiment into a horticultural success story.
