Monsoon is advancing across Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and towards north India. According to the IMD, weather conditions remain favourable for further advancement over the next few days. (Image: PTI/File) The southwest monsoon is expected to reach Delhi-NCR between June 25 and June 30, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The monsoon made its onset over Kerala on June 4, three days later than its normal date. Earlier on Thursday, thunderstorms and rain brought temporary relief from the scorching summer heat across the region. Despite the delayed arrival, weather officials expect it to advance steadily across the country and cover most regions by the third week of June.

IMD Prediction For Delhi For Today The IMD’s latest forecast indicates that Delhi, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad are likely to witness the onset of monsoon during the last week of June. Further, the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Delhi, forecasting light rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph on Friday. While no alert has been issued for Noida and Ghaziabad, both cities may witness partly cloudy skies with brief spells of rain or thundershowers. Gurugram remains under a yellow alert for thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds. Monsoon Advances Across India Around the same period, monsoon rains are also expected to reach parts of Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh, while Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh may begin receiving rainfall as the system moves further north.

Last year, the monsoon arrived in Delhi on June 29, two days later than the normal onset date of June 27. Meanwhile, the monsoon has continued its advance across southern and coastal regions of the country. On Thursday, it covered the entire Kerala coast, Lakshadweep, parts of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and expanded further into the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal. According to the IMD, weather conditions remain favourable for further advancement over the next few days. The monsoon is expected to spread across all of Goa and into parts of Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, while additional regions of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and the northeastern states are also likely to come under its influence.
