The Chittoor police on Friday (August 14, 2026) distributed 1,000 helmets to two-wheeler riders and organised a mega bike rally as part of ‘Surakshitha Chittoor–Mee Bhadhratha Maa Badhyatha’ campaign. District Collector Sumit Kumar and Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi launched the distribution and rally at Ammapalli Cross in Karvetinagar mandal.
After the distribution, the riders sporting helmets took part in the rally from Ammapalli Cross to the Karvetinagar police station junction, spreading awareness on safe driving and helmet use. Collector Sumit Kumar said that accidents could occur due to several factors, including rash driving, poor road conditions, and slippery roads during rain.
He urged riders to consider helmets as a responsibility rather than merely a traffic requirement. SP Tushar Dudi said that Chittoor recorded at least 350 road deaths
every year, including around 150 to 170 two-wheeler riders. He said that road tragedies affect families and urged motorists to follow traffic rules and prioritise safety over speed.
