The Bar Council of India has withdrawn its controversial order barring NALSAR’s 2026 graduating batch from enrolling as advocates, following widespread criticism and Supreme Court intervention. The row erupted after students protested against the invitation extended to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant for the university’s convocation.
While questions were raised over the manner of the protest, the Supreme Court affirmed the students’ right to protest and questioned the BCI’s decision, with concerns also raised over whether the initial order had any backing under the Advocates Act or Bar Council rules.
