Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has sought 10-day parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara, convicted in the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh. Mann met Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria and appealed for parole on humanitarian grounds, citing Hawara’s ailing mother. Mann said the Governor’s recommendation would be followed by a decision from the Union Home Ministry.
The move comes as the campaign for the release of Sikh prisoners gains momentum in Punjab, bringing panthic politics into focus ahead of elections.
