Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has described the Indus Waters Treaty as a 'red line' on the eve of Pakistan's Independence Day, stating that stopping water to the people of Pakistan is unfair. His statement comes after India suspended the decades-old water treaty following a terror attack in Pahalgam, with India making its position clear that water and blood cannot flow together.
Following the treaty's suspension, Pakistan has been suffering severe consequences, including an inability to prepare for floods and droughts due to the lack of hydrological data from India. While Pakistan attempts to gather international sympathy, its efforts remain unsuccessful as it stays globally exposed over terrorism, internal security threats, economic turmoil, and unrest in Balochistan and PoK. Meanwhile, on a separate trade front, the United States has targeted India alongside 40 other nations, with presidential trade advisor Peter Navarro claiming they engage in a trans-shipment scheme by repackaging and relabeling Chinese goods to help China evade US tariffs.
