Ahead of Independence Day 2026, Delhi has been placed under a heightened security alert with agencies strengthening surveillance across the national capital. From the Red Fort and Delhi borders to railway stations, metro stations, markets and other sensitive locations, security personnel are carrying out intensive checks and patrols. In a special CNN-News18 ground report from the Yamuna River, visuals show Delhi Police personnel conducting boat patrols across the Yamuna floodplains and river-adjacent areas as part of the multi-layered security arrangements for August 15.
Security agencies are focusing on land, water and air surveillance this year. Alongside ground patrols and barricading, Delhi Police are using drones for aerial surveillance, while boat teams monitor movement along the riverbanks and surrounding khadar areas for any suspicious activity. Additional security forces have been deployed across key parts of Delhi, while restrictions have been imposed on drones, paragliders and other aerial activities ahead of Independence Day.
