The vessel was hit as it approached Iran’s territorial waters in the Sea of Oman, Iranian news agency Tasnim reported.
The Iranian military said the incident happened after US attacks on Iranian commercial vessels and the “violation of Strait of Hormuz regulations", according to Tasnim’s report. The Iranian strike came hours after it launched a barrage of missiles targeting US bases in Kuwait and Bahrain. “In that part of the world, a ceasefire is when you’re shooting in a more moderate manner," Trump remarked, characterising the ongoing exchanges as a limited escalation rather than a complete breakdown of the truce. Trump also said that talks with Iran are going “very well" and could yield results over the coming weekend. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that lines of communication with the United States were still open, but “no tangible progress" has been made in negotiations to end the Middle East war. “Communications with the Americans have not been cut off, and messages have been exchanged regarding the need to stop aggression against Beirut, but no tangible progress has been made in the negotiation process," the Tasnim news agency quoted him as telling Lebanon’s Al Mayadeen TV.
