The first four-year cycle of the Agnipath scheme is nearing completion, beginning with the initial batch of Navy Agniveers inducted in late 2022. As per existing guidelines, 25 per cent of the Agniveers will be retained in the armed forces based on operational needs, performance evaluations, and individual choices.
The remaining 75 per cent will transition to alternate roles, with reserved opportunities made available in Central Armed Police Forces, state police, Indian Coast Guard, and railway recruitments. While all three services have conducted assessment processes and internal deliberations have taken place regarding potentially increasing the retention quota, no policy change has been finalized prior to the first batch's retirement.
