Ayush doctors, postgraduates, and house surgeons staged a hunger strike at Dharna Chowk in Hyderabad to demand stipend parity with allopathy doctors. Protesting doctors expressed deep disappointment over receiving low stipends, emphasizing that they dedicate equal hard work, study hours, emergency duties, and sleepless nights as allopathic practitioners. Protesters like Dr Nazia Begum, Tanushree, and Dr Bashir stated that the issue is not merely about money, but about dignity, equality, and the implementation of government orders (GOs) pending since 2016.
Demonstrators noted that despite giving a 15-day notice period and undergoing ten days of peaceful campus strikes, the Telangana government has failed to respond or acknowledge their grievances. The report highlights that Telangana offers among the lowest stipends for Ayush doctors compared to other states like Delhi and neighbouring Andhra Pradesh, where parity is maintained. Protesters urged the state government to honour past government orders, restore their professional dignity, establish a green channel for stipend disbursement, and resolve the ongoing discrimination immediately.
