National Education Policy 2020 not approved in Kerala, clarifies KSHEC
The Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) has dismissed as baseless reports that a committee appointed by the council has recommended or approved the implementation
The Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) has dismissed as baseless reports that a committee appointed by the council has recommended or approved the implementation of the Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in Kerala. In a statement, council vice-chairperson Achuthsankar S. Nair clarified that the committee was constituted to recommend immediate corrections and modifications to the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP), which has been under implementation in the State for the past three years.
He asserted that the committee does not have the authority to take policy decisions such as approving the NEP 2020. An interim report submitted by the committee has been placed on the agenda for discussion at the KSHEC executive committee meeting scheduled for Friday.
The report will become an official document only after it is approved by the decision-making body, he said. He also added that only the structural aspects of the NEP are
currently being implemented in Kerala. The political leadership has already made its position clear on other aspects of the policy, and no change in that position has been considered or discussed.
