Sagar MLA Belur Gopala Krishna of the Congress party has refuted allegations of contacting a Sangh Parivar leader with the intention of joining the BJP after he was denied a Cabinet berth. Addressing a press conference in Sagar on Wednesday, Mr. Gopala Krishna said he had many friends in the Sangh Parivar, several of whom favoured a Cabinet berth for him.
However, he had not called anyone with the objective of joining the BJP. He was reacting to former Minister Haratalu Halappa’s allegation that he had approached a Sangh Parivar leader with the intention of joining the BJP after being disappointed over being denied a Cabinet berth.
“Why should I join the BJP, when the Congress party is in power under a dynamic Chief Minister? The BJP, on the other hand, is a divided house with several factions within the party. There is no question of my joining that party,” he said.
He further said that former Minister Haratalu Halappa had earlier attempted to enter the Congress through former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
