Eminent economist and Chairman of the Tamil Nadu government’s recently constituted Revenue Augmentation Committee Montek Singh Ahluwalia and members of the committee called on Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay at the Secretariat in Chennai. The committee, which has been tasked with recommending measures for the sustainable augmentation of the State’s tax and non-tax revenues by improving compliance, plugging leakages, rationalising tax rates, fees and exemptions, and identifying new and underutilised sources of revenue, held its first meeting recently.
Against this backdrop, the committee met the Chief Minister for the first time and held discussions. Members of the committee, including K.P. Krishnan, Arbind Modi, Najib Shah Suresh Babu, Finance Minister N. Marie Wilson, Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar and Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) M.A. Siddique participated in the meeting.
Separately, Chairman of the Hinduja Group of Companies Ashok P. Hinduja, Head of OHM Mobility Shom Hinduja, and Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland
Limited Shenu Agarwal met Mr. Vijay at the Secretariat and held discussions.
