Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was absent on the first day of the Monsoon Session of the Karnataka legislature on Thursday. Several other members, including former Ministers H.C. Mahadevappa Venkatesh, both from Mysuru district, also did not attend the Assembly session.
Siddaramaiah was reportedly upset over the Congress leadership’s decision not to induct Basavaraj Shivannanavar, Byadagi MLA, into the Cabinet. However, Mr. Shivannanavar was present in the House. Meanwhile, former
Minister Vinay Kulkarni attended the session after his membership of the Assembly was restored following the High Court’s stay on a special court’s April 15 judgment convicting him of
criminal conspiracy and the murder of Yageshgowda Goudar, a BJP leader in Dharwad district, in 2016. The Assembly Secretariat issued a notification restoring Mr. Kulkarni’s membership of the House.
