Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked inside the premises of a gurdwara in Nanded, Maharashtra. The incident occurred while Badal was visiting the gurdwara to seek blessings accompanied by police constables and security personnel. An unidentified attacker, allegedly dressed as a Nihung and wielding a sharp weapon, targeted Badal, causing injuries to his arm.
A security constable who attempted to intervene was also injured during the assault. Badal was immediately rushed to Yeshwantrai Hospital for medical treatment, where officials confirmed he sustained minor arm injuries and is in stable condition. Police and gurdwara management personnel detained the suspect at the scene and launched an investigation to determine the attacker's identity and motive. Speaking on the incident, senior Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia termed the assault a major security failure and alleged an assassination attempt on Badal, calling for a thorough inquiry.
