In an interview, Syed Naseer Hussain, Congress MP and party whip in the Rajya Sabha, addressed allegations that the Opposition is disrupting Parliament and shifting its demands. Hussain clarified that the Opposition's stance remains firm: Union Home Minister Amit Shah must attend Parliament to make a formal statement regarding the July 20 violence against students at Jantar Mantar and allegations of 'Chadhawa Chori', followed by a detailed discussion and clarification.
Rejecting claims that the Congress is stalling proceedings, Hussain emphasized that in a parliamentary democracy, the primary responsibility lies with the government to ensure Parliament functions and accommodates critical issues raised by the Opposition. He stated, "It is the government that is running away from the discussion," noting that Ministers are avoiding the House. Furthermore, Hussain highlighted that legislative scrutiny through standing committees has dropped significantly over the past twelve years and urged proper JPC evaluations for major bills.
