In a move likely to spark controversy, the Tamil Nadu government has made ‘Tamil Thai Vazthu’, the state anthem, mandatory as the first song at all government events and official programmes.
The government order (GO) was issued following a resolution moved by Chief Minister Vijay and passed unanimously in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The order directs that the Tamil anthem be sung first at government functions, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
