A group of youngsters risked their lives by driving a multi-utility vehicle into the Kanjirapuzha dam reservoir and performing stunts in the water when the reservoir was full. Visuals of the vehicle being driven through the reservoir and one of the youngsters jumping from the vehicle into the water have surfaced.
The incident reportedly took place at Irumbakachola, a tourist spot near the dam. Vehicles are usually taken into the area during summer when the water level is low. But the youngsters drove the vehicle into the reservoir despite the water level being high. The group appeared to have ignored the depth, strong currents and other risks in the reservoir.
One of them is seen jumping from the vehicle into the water. The identities of the youngsters are yet to be established. The vehicle’s registration number is not clear in the footage. Authorities are checking whether they are from the area or had come from elsewhere. Officials have collected the footage and started an inquiry.
Authorities have warned that violating safety restrictions in the reservoir could lead to accidents. Residents have sought action against those involved in the incident and tighter restrictions in reservoir areas.
