An India Today ground report from Hauz Rani in Delhi exposes Flourish Inn, a hotel operating without basic safety measures, days after a devastating fire at Flourish Stay claimed twenty-one lives. The investigation reveals that Flourish Inn, run by the same owner, functions without a visible licence and features windowless rooms, blocked emergency exits, and a kitchen situated in the basement.
Footage shows window panes deliberately covered with plyboard, leaving guests with no escape route in case of a fire or cylinder blast. The report questions the role of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Jal Board, and power distribution companies in allowing such establishments to operate. It also points out the misuse of the bed and breakfast policy, which permits a maximum of six rooms, to run full-scale hotels.
The findings raise concerns about the failure of successive governments and authorities to enforce safety regulations and prevent such disasters in the national capital.
