A political row over the alleged “lungi wala” remark intensified at Makar Dwar as opposition MPs from southern states protested, saying that the lungi and dhoti are traditional Indian attire and symbols of cultural pride. CPI(M) MP John Brittas had raised the issue in the Rajya Sabha, alleging that he was referred to as “lungi walla” during a verbal exchange.
Opposition MPs called the remark an attack on India’s cultural diversity and said they were protesting to defend constitutional values and respect for regional traditions.
