Image/News18 The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department on Wednesday issued a notice to a Zomato Hyperpure warehouse in Bengaluru after an inspection found several violations related to food labelling, licensing and storage. The inspection was conducted on Wednesday at the Hyperpure by Zomato facility in Sakalawara on Bannerghatta Road as part of the department’s ongoing food safety enforcement drive.

Officials said the inspection was conducted under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. As per the officials, the warehouse premises were clean and well maintained, but several issues were found with food products stored at the facility. According to the department, around 146 kg of chicken was found without the manufacturer’s FSSAI licence number. Another 40 kg of garlic was linked to a manufacturer whose FSSAI licence was not in force. Officials also flagged mislabelling in 300 kg of packed rice, 20 kg of dry fruits and 15 kg of masala. In addition, 10 kg of imported radish pickle was allegedly not stored under refrigeration despite its label requiring refrigerated storage. Food safety officials collected 40 samples, including five legal samples and 35 survey samples, for further examination.

The department has issued a notice to the concerned Hyperpure unit and said further legal action will be taken under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and relevant rules. The action came a day after the Food Safety Department sealed a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote, Bengaluru Rural, after officials found alleged violations including unhygienic food handling and storage, non-compliant labelling and misbranding. Officials had reported organic waste, discarded wrappers and bottles, dirt on floors and empty cardboard boxes at the Zepto facility, describing the conditions as “extremely unhygienic". According to a statement issued by the department, the inspection was carried out at the Zepto warehouse operated by Nippon Express in Hoskote Taluk, Bengaluru Rural district. The special drive was conducted under the guidance of Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader to assess the quality, safety, storage, labelling and food handling practices of food products at the facility.
