(Photo: Reuters) An IndiGo flight operating from Kolkata to Chennai declared a full emergency shortly before landing at Chennai airport late Tuesday after the aircraft’s left engine failed.

The aircraft was carrying 224 people. IndiGo flight 6E-723, operating from Kolkata to Chennai, declared a full emergency at 11.29 pm on August 11, based on information from Airports Authority of India (AAI) officials. The flight was scheduled to arrive at Chennai at 11.30 pm. However, as the aircraft was preparing to land, the pilot noticed that the left engine had failed. The pilot immediately alerted air traffic control, following which airport authorities activated emergency response measures to facilitate the aircraft’s safe landing. Despite the engine failure, the aircraft landed safely at Chennai airport at 11.37 pm on Runway 25.

All 224 people on board were safe. The full emergency declared at the airport was subsequently withdrawn at 11.47 pm. According to the report, airport authorities said that all operations remained normal following the incident.
