A 20-year-old woman from Bihar’s Nawada district, who had left her husband and eloped with her lover to start a new life, was murdered by the same man, according to police. The accused then stuffed her body in a trolley suitcase, locked the room and fled from Dadra and Nagar Haveli, where the murder took place, police said. Nearly two months after the murder of Chhoti Upadhyay, accused Rishabh Kumar Singh has been arrested in Varanasi, where he was working under a changed identity.
Read Full Story According to police, Chhoti was already married when she was in a relationship with Rishabh, who was from the same village. At Chhoti’s insistence, the two left their village and moved to Silvassa in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, where they got married. Their families opposed the relationship and refused to accept Chhoti. An FIR alleging kidnapping was also registered against Rishabh. After their marriage, Chhoti repeatedly urged Rishabh to return to their village. This led to frequent disputes between the couple, police said.
On the morning of June 9, the two had a heated argument. That evening, Rishabh strangled Chhoti to death in anger, according to officials. Police said the accused then tied her body with a rope, wrapped it in plastic and stuffed it into a trolley suitcase in an attempt to conceal the crime. He locked the room and fled to Varanasi, where he began working as a labourer at a private company while concealing his identity. The murder came to light nearly two months later, on August 3, when the landlord broke open the locked room to rent it to another tenant.
A foul smell coming from a suitcase kept in the bathroom led to the discovery of the body. During the investigation, Uttar Pradesh Police received information that Rishabh was in Varanasi.
