Image/News18 The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has sealed a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote after a special inspection found multiple violations of food safety norms, including unhygienic food handling and storage conditions. According to a statement issued by the department, the inspection was carried out at the Zepto warehouse operated by Nippon Express in Hoskote Taluk, Bengaluru Rural district.
The special drive was conducted under the guidance of Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader to assess the quality, safety, storage, labelling and food handling practices of food products at the facility. Officials said the inspection was conducted under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the Food Safety and Standards Rules, 2011, and the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. Another quick-commerce warehouse under scrutiny.Food Safety officials raided a Zepto warehouse in Hoskote and reportedly found highly unhygienic conditions and poor sanitation. Consumers deserve better. During the inspection, the department found several violations, including non-compliant labelling, misbranding, unhygienic food handling and storage conditions, along with other violations of FSSAI requirements. Owing to the unhygienic conditions, the warehouse was sealed under the applicable provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The Food Safety Department has also issued a notice to the Zepto warehouse and recommended that a case be filed before the concerned adjudicating officer for further legal action. In its statement, the department said strict legal action would be initiated against food business operators found violating food safety regulations. It added that such special inspection drives would continue to ensure the public has access to safe, hygienic, and quality food. “Routine food safety inspections are conducted by authorities across the country as part of their regular oversight. We have fully cooperated with the authorities during the inspection, taken note of the observations and suggestions shared, and are taking the necessary steps to address them. We remain committed to continuously strengthening our processes and maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene," Zepto said.
