An Air India pilot operating flight AI2379 from Phuket to Delhi tested positive for marijuana in a second confirmatory dope test following an in-flight incident where the aircraft experienced a sudden 300-foot plunge, injuring more than 20 passengers. Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu addressed the situation while officials from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) summoned outgoing Air India CEO Campbell Wilson. Technical investigations into the black box data, supported by Airbus and the French agency BEA, indicate a hydraulic issue caused the descent.
Simultaneously, political tensions increased in Jharkhand as the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party staged statewide protests and strikes against the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-led government over alleged JSSC CGL and JPSC examination paper leaks and police lathi charges on student demonstrators.
