With the initiative of Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan, road connectivity will be provided for the first time to 158 remote habitations in Andhra Pradesh at a cost of ₹422.10 crore sanctioned under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). According to officials, 146 roads and 19 bridges, covering a total length of 347 km, will be constructed under the scheme. Road connectivity has already been provided to several hilltop tribal villages in Alluri Sitarama Raju and Parvathipuram Manyam districts under the ‘Adavitalli Bata’ initiative, they said.
The latest initiative will provide road access to remote villages, habitations and hamlets across the State, including those in the plains, that have remained isolated for years. The process of according administrative sanction for the construction of connecting roads to the 158 habitations has been completed, officials said. Habitations lacking proper road connectivity were identified and project estimates prepared for districts including Alluri Sitarama Raju, Parvathipuram Manyam, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, Kurnool, Kadapa, Tirupati, Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore, Prakasam, Palnadu, NTR, Eluru, Polavaram, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam.
While ₹422.10 crore has been sanctioned under the PMGSY for the works, an additional ₹24.47 crore has been released towards maintenance of the roads for five years. The Panchayat Raj Engineering Department will execute the works. Pawan Kalyan said it was a pleasure to facilitate road connectivity for the first time to 158 habitations under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and with the cooperation of Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan. “Highest standards must be maintained in the quality of roads constructed in remote villages.
The roads we build should serve the people for a long time. These roads and bridges, being constructed to provide better transport facilities to villages previously lacking such connectivity, will link these villages to the outside world and provide better access to education, healthcare and markets,” he said.
