The central government is considering referring the Foreign Contribution Regulation Amendment Bill 2026 to a Joint Parliamentary Committee following demands from opposition parties. While the DMK, NCP-SP, and BJD support sending the FCRA bill to a committee, the Congress and TMC have demanded its complete withdrawal. In the Tamil Nadu Assembly, resolutions were passed against the FCRA bill and the Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), prompting a walkout by the lone BJP MLA.
This developed alongside political debate between the BJP and TVK regarding secularism and religious remarks. Separately, aviation authorities including the DGCA, AAIB, and Civil Aviation Ministry officials met with the Air India CEO after a confirmatory dope test on the pilot in command of flight AI2379 returned positive for marijuana. The test followed a mid-air turbulence incident on a Phuket to Delhi flight where the aircraft dropped 300 feet.
Meanwhile, in Karnataka, ministerial portfolio allocation remains pending nine days post-cabinet expansion, awaiting central leadership approval as Chief Minister DK Shivakumar engaged with protesting farmers in Bidadi.
