Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi firmly asserted on Tuesday that the State government was fully committed to safeguarding the interests of farmers regarding the release of water into canals. He was chairing a preliminary meeting for the 126th Irrigation Consultative Committee for canals under the Tungabhadra project at the Command Area Development Authority office in Munirabad, Koppal district.
Mr. Tangadagi stated that measures would be taken to release water from the Tungabhadra dam based on the overall availability of water. Following recent good inflows, the dam’s storage currently stands at 82 tmcft. ”The State is still reeling from severe drought conditions, even though a few regions have received rainfall recently.
The State government is prepared to protect the farmers’ interests and will decide on releasing water into the canals after consulting with elected representatives,” Mr. Tangadagi said. Several leaders and officials from Ballari, Vijayanagara, and Raichur
districts, including MLAs Raghavendra Hitnal, Basanagowda Daddal, Hampanagowda Badarli, Hampayya Naik, Basanagowda Turvihal, Shivaraj Patil, Annapurna Tukaram, and J.N. Ganesh, as well as MLCs Basanagowda Badarli, N.S. Boseraju, Hasansab Dotihal, Hanumagouda Belkurki, and Chamras Malipatil were present.
