Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council and senior YSRCP leader Botcha Satyanarayana on Tuesday alleged that senior IPS officials were allowing Station House Officers (SHOs) to file false cases with stringent charges against YSRCP leaders and activists who were agitating over public issues. Speaking to The Hindu, he said that IPS officers should discharge their duties in accordance with the rules framed by the Union government and not act as ‘puppets of the government’.
Botcha alleged that a road accident case involving former minister Sidiri Appala Raju was converted into an attempt-to-murder case while the charge sheet was being filed. He also strongly objected to the arrest of Amadalavalasa YSRCP in-charge Chintada Ravikumar. He also said that during Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s visit to Srikakulam to meet the family members of Sidiri Appala Raju, the police alleged misbehaviour with sub-inspector Pravallika and registered cases against 25 YSRCP members.
Botcha said that the attempt-to-murder cases were removed against them only after the court raised strong objection. He further alleged that the SPs of several districts did not permit peaceful rallies in
regards to the alleged irregularities in the DSC recruitment. He said that the party would soon bring the alleged violation of rules by senior officials to the notice of the Union government.
