BJP to raise induction of B. Nagendra in the Cabinet, suspension of social security pension in the session, says BJP MLA
Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa of the BJP has said the party will oppose the induction of B. Nagendra, who faces allegations of misappropriation of funds
Shivamogga MLA S.N. Channabasappa of the BJP has said the party will oppose the induction of B. Nagendra, who faces allegations of misappropriation of funds in the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation, and will raise the issue on priority in the Legislature session beginning on August 13. Speaking to reporters in Shivamogga on Tuesday, Mr. Channabasappa said the Congress and the Chief Minister had committed a grave mistake by inducting Mr. Nagendra into the Cabinet.
“I was disappointed with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s defence of the party’s decision. He brushed aside the charges against him [Nagendra]. I did not expect this from the Chief Minister. He holds the highest post. He should not have spoken like that,” he said. The MLA said the party would also raise the issue of the suspension of social security pensions for the elderly, widows and persons with disabilities, in the name of a revision of beneficiary lists.
“Thousands of beneficiaries have not received their pension for over six months. If you are revising the beneficiaries’ list, you should have completed the process within a month. How can they survive for six months?” he asked. Channabasappa said more than 6,000 people had been affected in his constituency, Shivamogga, alone. “Will you pay them the arrears? Do you want the pension money to run the government?” he asked.
The MLA said the BJP would raise these issues in the session.
