A complainant has submitted an affidavit to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath alleging a Rs 1,000-crore scam involving the UP Shia Waqf Board, including illegal sale of Waqf properties, deletion of assets from official records and irregularities in donations. The complaint claims that graves were allegedly sold for up to Rs 10 lakh and that some Hindu-owned properties were fraudulently recorded as Waqf properties, leading to the addition of around 2,500 Waqfs.
Read Full Story The complainant has alleged that valuable Waqf properties worth crores in Lucknow, Meerut, Prayagraj, Aligarh and Jhansi were sold through mutawallis, who manage Waqf properties. It further claims that some properties were removed from official records in return for payments running into crores. According to the complaint, only a court has the authority to remove a Waqf from official records, but such deletions were allegedly carried out at the Board level.
The complainant has also questioned the functioning of separate Shia and Sunni Waqf Boards in Uttar Pradesh after 1995, alleging that the arrangement has led to misuse of government funds. The affidavit also alleges irregularities in donations collected at Hazrat Abbas Dargah in Lucknow, Mazar Shaheed-e-Salis in Agra and Jogipura Dargah in Bijnor. It further claims that some people associated with the Waqf Board, along with a prominent cleric, were involved in the alleged distribution of donation money.
The complainant has sought an SIT investigation and strict action from the Chief Minister over the allegations. Ends
