Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) leader G.K. Vasan on Tuesday (August 11, 2026) urged the Tamil Nadu government to take steps to secure the release of the fishing boats of Tamil Nadu fishermen, which were recently confiscated by the Andhra Pradesh government. In a statement, Mr. Vasan said that seven fishing boats of fishermen from Tamil Nadu were confiscated by officials of the Andhra Pradesh government on June 16. They have not been released as yet, and it has affected the livelihood of the fishermen, he said.
“The Tamil Nadu government should hold talks with the Andhra Pradesh government to find a durable solution that would not affect the livelihood of fishermen from Tamil Nadu,” the former Union Minister said. All-party meet on Cauvery Vasan, while speaking to reporters in Bhavani, Erode, expressed hope that the State government would convene an all-party meeting at an appropriate time to discuss the Cauvery water issue. He said the government had taken the right step by approaching the Supreme Court to secure the State’s share of Cauvery water.
He also urged the DMK to effectively articulate the State’s concerns in Parliament on the proposed delimitation of constituencies. Strengthening of party Vasan, who was in Bhavani to attend a meeting of TMC(M) regional presidents from nine districts, said the party was strengthening its organisation in weaker areas and identifying constituencies where it had a good chance of winning in the upcoming local body elections. He urged the government to provide immediate electricity connections to the 50,000 farmers who had applied under the Tatkal scheme.
He also called upon the Centre to act on the Chief Minister’s request for linking the Godavari, Cauvery, and Gundar rivers. The State government should take steps to ensure that students receive education loans in full and increase Aavin’s milk procurement price, he said. Mr. Vasan said the Congress and like-minded parties had begun working together at the national and State levels.
