The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) took out a march to the University of Kerala headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday (August 11, 2026), raising a range of demands concerning examination evaluation, revaluation, academic administration and student facilities. The protest turned tense after the police stopped the SFI activists at the university gate. The protesters eventually entered the campus by scaling the compound wall, following which the police used water cannon. There was also a brief confrontation between the police and the protesters. The SFI subsequently began a sit-in outside the university headquarters.
LLB exam paper evaluation The main demand raised by the SFI concerned alleged irregularities in the evaluation and revaluation of answer scripts, particularly in the BA LLB examination. Addressing the protesters, SFI State president M. Sivakumar alleged that 49 students who had initially been declared failed in the examination passed the examinations when the revaluation results were announced. He questioned the university’s evaluation system, and pointed out that students who had prepared for and written their examinations were subjected to considerable mental stress and financial loss after they were declared unsuccessful initially and had to apply for revaluation.
Sivakumar said that a student has to pay ₹820 for revaluation of a single paper of the LLB. Students who fear losing an academic year may also apply for supplementary examinations while awaiting their revaluation results, he said. Comprehensive probe sought The SFI has demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged irregularities in evaluation and revaluation, including instances in which answer scripts and supplementary answer sheets were allegedly found missing. It has also demanded exemplary action against those found responsible. Sivakumar said the university Registrar had assured the protesters that their concerns would be considered, and that the alleged evaluation irregularities would be taken up as an important agenda before the Syndicate.
The SFI’s charter of demands included a reduction in revaluation fees. It has demanded that the revaluation fee be refunded if a student’s marks increase by 10% or more following revaluation. The other demands relate to the publication of results of Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) examinations, and better facilities for woman students staying in Kerala University hostels.
