Udhayakumar made the comments at an event that saw the presence of AIADMK cadres in Thoothukudi on Saturday, August 8. He was targeting the TVK government, led by CM Vijay, alleging failure to get Karnataka to release Cauvery water despite an order issued by the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA). The AIADMK leader’s comments have sparked a fresh controversy in Tamil Nadu, as fans of Trisha –– a renowned actor in south cinema –– protest against the statement.

The Trisha Fans Association has put up posters across Madurai, criticising Udhayakumar’s remarks about the ‘Ghilli’ actor. When Stalin Jr. Sparked Controversy Just a few days ago, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader triggered a massive controversy in the State after making objectionable comments about Trisha Krishnan. Again, the main target here was Vijay. Speaking at a DMK rally over the Cauvery water issue, Udhayanidhi –– also the son of former Chief Minister MK Stalin –– made a double-meaning comment about Trisha after some people in the crowd chanted her name. He was criticising CM Vijay-led government’s approach to the Cauvery issue. Following the remarks, the women’s wing of the TVK lodged a complaint with the Thanjavur Police, alleging that the Leader of Opposition had made a double-entendre remark against the actor.
