A 2022-batch trainee IPS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre and two police personnel have been named in a complaint alleging that Rs 1 crore was sought and received to settle a cyber fraud case. The matter has gone to a special CBI court in Delhi, which has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from the Chhattisgarh Director General of Police and the Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The complainant has also placed alleged digital evidence relating to the purported transactions before the court, including WhatsApp chats and call recordings. According to the complaint, Bansal had earlier worked as an Income Tax inspector before joining the Indian Police Service.
After becoming an IPS officer, his first field posting was as a CSP in Chhattisgarh's Surguja district. It was during this posting that the cyber fraud allegations first surfaced. The complaint alleged that the Rs 1 crore payment was not made in a single transaction, and was transferred through hawala channels in two instalments of Rs 50 lakh each in May 2026. The complainant has approached the court with alleged evidence relating to the purported transaction and communications between the parties.
The material submitted before the court allegedly includes WhatsApp conversations and call recordings. The ATR is expected to indicate what action has been taken so far on the complaint and the allegations made against the accused.
