(Source: Reuters) The Awami Action Committee in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has announced a fresh round of protests ahead of Pakistan’s Independence Day, calling August 13 and 14 “Black Days" and urging Kashmiris across the world to demonstrate against what it alleges are atrocities by Pakistani security forces. The group has called for formal protests on August 13 against the state of Pakistan and the Pakistan military, while asking the Kashmiri diaspora to organise demonstrations outside Pakistani diplomatic missions overseas. Global Protests Planned Awami Action Committee leader Umer Nazir Kashmiri has appealed to Kashmiris living abroad to hold rallies on August 13 and expose what the group describes as the use of force and oppression by Pakistani authorities in PoK.

The appeal seeks to turn the protests into an international campaign, with demonstrations planned outside Pakistani embassies and diplomatic missions. The move seeks to turn the eve and day of Pakistan’s Independence Day into a platform for expressing opposition to Islamabad’s control over the region. Claims Of Military Firing The group has also levelled serious allegations against Pakistan’s security forces. Umer Nazir Kashmiri has claimed that nearly 100 Kashmiris were killed in recent firing by the Pakistan military in PoK. The Awami Action Committee has described the alleged incidents as evidence of what it calls “oppression" and “terrorism" by state forces.
