Four years after the gruesome murder of Shraddha Walkar, her paternal aunt, Rajal Naik, on Monday claimed she had been receiving anonymous phone calls from Pakistan after speaking to the media about the delay in justice in the case. Naik said the calls have frightened her family and that she plans to approach the police with evidence. A resident of Vasai in Maharashtra's Palghar district, Naik said she has stopped answering unknown international calls because of safety concerns.
She further said she has saved screenshots of the incoming call logs and will file an official complaint with the Vasai Police. We are scared, but I have documented the call records and will be approaching the police for a probe into who is trying to intimidate us," Naik told reporters.
Walkar, 27, who was from Vasai, was murdered in Delhi on May 18, 2022, by her live-in partner Aaftab Poonawala. According to police, he strangled her, cut her body into multiple pieces, kept them in a refrigerator and disposed of them over several days in different parts of Delhi. Poonawala, who had rented a flat in the national capital's Mehrauli where the murder took place, was arrested on November 12, 2022.
The trial in the case has been pending since 2023. Walkar's father Vikas, who had pursued the case after her death, passed away in 2025. Naik has now said she will go to the police over the anonymous calls, while continuing to raise concerns over the delay in justice for Walkar. Ends
