A man from Meghalaya who had gone missing in Karnataka while looking for work has been traced safely and reunited with his family, officials said
A man from Meghalaya who had gone missing in Karnataka while looking for work has been traced safely and reunited with his family, officials said on Monday. The search was carried out through coordination between the Meghalaya and Karnataka police after the matter was taken up by the two state governments. Kwis Sumer, a resident of Muktapur village in West Jaintia Hills district, had been missing since July 15 after travelling to Karnataka in search of employment. He was later traced to Tiptur in Tumakuru district and brought back to Meghalaya, where he met his family and clan members in Shillong.
Read Full Story Officials said the matter came to the notice of the Meghalaya government through a memorandum submitted on July 27. Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma then took up the issue with the Karnataka government and facilitated coordination between the two states. A Meghalaya Police team led by IPS officer Lovish Garg travelled to Bengaluru along with representatives of Sumer's clan and worked with senior Karnataka Police officials to trace him. The team reconstructed Sumer's last known movements and narrowed down his possible location using technical and other investigative inputs. A breakthrough came when Sumer tried to contact his family through social media with the help of Kavi Kumar, who had given him shelter and assistance during his stay in Karnataka.
Acting on this information, the Meghalaya Police, in coordination with the Karnataka Police, traced him to Tiptur, where he was found safe. He was later taken into the care of the authorities, and arrangements were made for his return to Meghalaya. "With the help of the Karnataka Police, especially the Bangalore Police, and the hard work of the Meghalaya Police and other stakeholders, we were able to find him. He is back safely to our state," Sangma said. "I take this opportunity to once again thank all those who have played a role, most importantly the police in Bangalore and the Meghalaya Police who ensured that he was found and brought back safely to our state," he added.
Sumer expressed gratitude to the chief minister and all those involved in ensuring his safe return, while his clan members also thanked the authorities. Officials said he will now be taken to his home in Muktapur village, bringing to a close the search that began after he went missing in Karnataka. Ends With PTI inputs
