Student protests over recruitment examination irregularities in Jharkhand turned violent as demonstrators marching towards the Vidhan Sabha faced lathi charges, tear gas, and water cannons from Ranchi police. Protesting students are demanding the cancellation of the JPSC prelims and backlog exams, along with a CBI investigation into alleged paper leaks in the JSSC CGL examination. The incident triggered a sharp political confrontation between the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party and the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
The BJP accused the Hemant Soren-led government of using excessive force against peaceful demonstrators and demanded the Chief Minister's resignation, while JMM alleged that external elements were brought in to create chaos. Meanwhile, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi criticized the crackdown on students. Responding to the protests, Chief Minister Hemant Soren appealed to the students for peace, assuring them that the government would address their demands with seriousness and take steps to ensure examination transparency.
