Student and employeesâ organisations removed flags, banners and boards erected at the headquarters and the Karyavattom campus of Kerala University on Monday. Vice-Chancellor in-charge Mohanan Kunnummal had directed the organisations to remove the banners and boards within 24 hours a day ago.
The Registrar was instructed to remove them at the universityâs expense if they were not removed within the stipulated time and to recover the cost from those responsible. The Registrar reached the Karyavattom campus around noon in the presence of the police to oversee the removal of the boards.
However, the organisations themselves removed the publicity materials. The Vice-Chancellor has also prohibited the installation of such items in a manner that obscures the universityâs heritage structures and important buildings. Moreover, the university has decided that no boards or banners should be installed within 200 metres of the universityâs entrance gates.
At the same time, special facilities will be arranged on the campuses for student, teaching and non-teaching organisations to display their boards.
