GSL Medical College Managing Director Dr. Ganni Sandeep on Monday announced financial aid of ₹20 lakh to the family of 28-year-old Dr. Karake Priyanka, who recently died days after she suffered injuries in an accident. The move comes a day after the State government announced an ex gratia of ₹20 lakh to Priyanka’s family and assured the reimbursement of her medical expenses. She was a first-year student of Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Dermatology at the GSL Medical College in Rajamahendravaram.
Priyanka succumbed to her injuries on August 9, after she suffered severe injuries on August 3 after a car rammed the vehicle she was riding pillion and she was declared brain dead by the doctors. Police took two persons into custody, who were allegedly intoxicated and in the car that was involved in the accident. Nearly 1,500 students, doctors, teaching fraternity and nursing students of the medical college on Monday mourned the death of Priyanka.
“Her kindness and memories will remain with us for a long time. Priyanka’s loss is irreplaceable,” Dr. Sandeep said. GSL Executive Director Dr. Ganni Sadhika, Head of the Dermatology Department Dr. Sitaram, Professor Dr. Venkataramana, and Radiology student Dr. Umesh, who was also injured in the accident along with Priyanka in the accident, offered floral tributes to the portrait of the victim on the college campus.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sandeep has announced that the college management would soon operate four bus services from Rajamahendravaram to the college to avoid any untoward incidents during their journey.
